Rare 19th Cent French Empire Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock
DESCRIPTION: 19th Cent French Empire Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock. Titled â€ËœAu Bon Savageâ€â„¢ or â€ËœThe Stretcher Bearersâ€â„¢. The case is attributed to Parisian bronze caster Louis-Isidore Choiselat (1784-1853) aka Choiselat-Gallen. The clock features two exceptional figures, blackamoors, carrying a bale of cotton surmounted by a chained musician monkey holding cane sticks in his hand. The blackamoor figures, each with enamel eyes and ormolu dress. The stretcher rests on the shoulders of the blackamoors. The clock base has a broad horizontal band showing sculpted decorations. The white enamel dial with signature â€ËœGodeby à Parisâ€â„¢, has Roman numerals, gilt-steel Directoire style hands for the hours and minutes. The 8 day movement with anchor escapement, silk thread suspension, striking on the hour and half hours on a bell, with outside count wheel. CIRCA: 1815ORIGIN:FranceDIMENSIONS: H: 17.5″ W: 13.75 D:4.75″CONDITION: Great condition. DESCRIPTION: A French clock set features a center clock and two candelabras, each piece composed of gilt bronze and Malachite. The clock marked on the porcelain dial “DENIERE FT DE BRONZES, A PARIS’ , adorned by figures of putti angels, absinthe vines, and ribbon motifs. Flanked by two matching light candelabras, comes with Key and Pendulum. DESCRIPTION: George Betjeman & Sons Edwardian Mahogany Enclosed Dressing Table. Constructed in a finely grained mahogany, with line inlays of metamorphic form, rising from brass castor shod tapering legs. The rectangular hinged top opens to reveal four out lifting sides to a compartmented interior with a central adjustable beveled glass triptych mirror with a silver frame. The two hinged compartments flanked by two glass slides, contain fitted interior comprising of four silver and Guilloché brushes, and two handheld mirrors. The front has two pull out slides and the whole table stands on square legs joined by a lower stretcher-shelf. The fitted interior comprising of five silver brushes of various sizes, 1 silver topped crystal bottle and a full manicure set. An empire style 19th Century gilt bronze and red griotte marble mantle clock with allegorical figures, case attributted to “Claude Galle” Features a round white enamel dial signed “Maniere a Paris” two gilt bronze hands, the bezel decorated with bead and palmette friezes and fitted within an octagonal frame adorned with ribbon tied wheat sheaves. Claude Galle “L’ASTRONOMIE ÉGYPTIENNE”clock, the clock is a wonderful and exquisite example of Parisian gilt-bronze or ‘ormolu’ work of the early 19th century Empire period.The case with its wonderful figures and mounts is the work of the French modeller and gilder Claude Galle. The clock depicting “Astronomie” standing Urania possibly by J.F Deniere with drafting tools and globe supported by Sphinx figures, further decorated with Egyptian motifs.
