Paul Tuttle Arco Chairs and Jovan Obican Lithograph Available With Cain Modern Auctions

Arco Chairs by Paul Tuttle

Cain Modern Auctions’ latest Furniture, Lighting & Fashion, No Reserve event, scheduled for February 28, will particularly highlight striking pieces of furniture by the likes of Paul Tuttle and Dakota Jackson. Leading the sale is a pair of Arco chairs by American designer Paul Tuttle. With an emphasis on minimalism and sculpture, Tuttle’s furniture pieces stand out for their simple lines, geometric shapes, and creative materials, often using innovative manufacturing techniques. The offered pair of Arco armchairs have a chrome-plated steel frame and are upholstered with vibrant pink fabric. Another notable piece of furniture in the catalog is a set of Cadette dining chairs by American furniture designer Dakota Jackson. A key component of the Art Furniture movement since the early 1970s, Jackson’s designs are distinguished by their craftsmanship, engineering, and design. The available dining chairs feature a doweled, corner-blocked frame made of kiln-dried hardwood.

Beyond furniture, bidders can consider a limited-edition lithograph by French artist Jovan Obican titled Yemenite Exodus. The paintings and lithographs of Jovan Obican are known for their playful, childlike representations of folklore and traditional costumes. The available work portrays a rabbi flying across Jerusalem on a magic carpet. A group of children are perched precariously on top of a flying carpet as they sit together under an Israeli flag. Akseli Gallen-kallela (1865-1931) Bil - Bol. 1907

An edition of one of the most famous Finnish advertisements, titled Bil-Bol, is coming to auction with Swann Auction Galleries. The title Bil-Bol in Swedish translates as “car company.” It is a poster created in 1907 by Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865 – 1931) for an automobile retailer. This poster will lead the upcoming Vintage Posters & Graphic Design Auction. The artist behind the famous image was Akseli Gallen-Kallela, a Finnish painter considered an essential aspect of the Finnish national identity. He is best known for his illustrations of the Finnish national epic Kalevala. The most likely person to have commissioned the poster was Swedish Baron Carl Cederström. He founded Sweden’s first car company (and taxi service) in Stockholm, Bil-Aktibolaget, whose name was trademarked as Bil-Bol. Furthermore, he exhibited his cars in Stockholm’s May 1907 car exposition.

On the cover of issue one of L’Estampe Originale, Jane Avril stands in the Ancourt & Cie. printing shop, while the printer is hard at work behind her. L’Estampe Originale was a French periodical of original prints, containing prints by a distinguished group of artists like Paul Gauguin, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Auguste Rodin, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The subject on the cover issue is dancer Jane Avril, one of Toulouse-Lautrec’s muses. Lautrec (1864 – 1901) was a French painter, printmaker, caricaturist, and illustrator. His most famous works are depictions of the Moulin Rouge and its patrons. He immersed himself in the colorful and theatrical life of Paris in the late 19th century. He produced provocative images where the subjects have personalities and are diversely true to their nature. Visit Swann Auction Galleries to find the listed items and register to place a bid.

Fine Art Attributed to Lee Krasner, Lynne Drexler, Pablo Picasso, and More to Sell at 500 Gallery

Attributed to Lee Lenore Krasner: Abstract Composition

Fine prints, multiples, paintings, and sculptures by and attributed to master artists such as Lee Krasner, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Georgia O’Keeffe, and others will soon come to the market with 500 Gallery. An abstract composition attributed to Krasner is among the top lots of the sale. It is an oil on canvas rendered in muted shades of navy blue, gray, and orange. Drexler was a daring Abstract Expressionist who encountered fame early in her career. She stepped away from the spotlight later in life, and her work languished in obscurity for decades before making a market comeback.

Several drawings and sketches are also available with 500 Gallery this February, including a collection of 27 watercolor sketches, sold as a set, that are attributed to Pablo Picasso. Each work is signed but undated. Also on offer is a charcoal and pastel on paper piece attributed to Manoucher Yektai and a Yertle the Turtle drawing attributed to Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel).
