Stahly, Francois (German/French, 1911-2006), La Coquille (The Shell), petite version, 1946-1966, polished bronze, 12 x 25 x 14 inches, (40 x 65 x 45cm.), apparently unsigned. Provenance: acquired from the artist; Darthea Speyer, Paris; Tillie S. Speyer, Pittsburgh, Pa. (mother of Darthea), and by descent to the consignor. Darthea Speyer was friendly with Francois Stahly and actively collected his works in Paris and Hydra for her family in Pittsburgh. Another version of this gilded bronze is in the French State Collection (FNAC).
