Joan Miró Lithograph Presented at New York City Estate Auction

Joan Miro Modern Abstract Color Lithograph

James Mont started his journey in design when he was working at an electrical supply shop in Brooklyn. At the time, he produced an array of self-designed lamps. It was only then that his workmanship reportedly caught the eye of Italian-American mobster Frankie Yale. He commissioned Mont to furnish his house. Shortly after, Mont became one of the most influential designers in the 20th century. His works predominantly centered on Eastern influences. One of his works will star in the upcoming New York City Estate Auction, presented by Auctions at Showplace. The available piece is a mid-century ebonized chest of drawers adorned with peach lacquer elements.

A Joan Miró abstract lithograph will also be highlighted in the sale. He was a Catalan painter who blended abstract art and Surrealist design. Miró’s later style was based on his perception of the harshness of contemporary life. His trademark biomorphic forms and geometric patterns can be seen in most of his artworks. Produced in 1961, the available lithograph shows a vague figure’s face with a red nose. View more lots of interest and register to bid online on Bidsquare

Pigeon’s Blood Burmese Ruby Earrings and Untreated Zambian Emerald Ring Highlight Fortuna Auction’s Upcoming Sale

PIGEON'S BLOOD BURMESE RUBY AND ROSE-CUT DIAMOND HELIX DROP EARRINGS

The people of Myanmar, formerly Burma, use the term “ko-twe” (pigeon’s blood) to refer to the most sought-after color of ruby. This blood red variety resembles the hue of a pigeon’s blood and eyes. Some also liken it to the shade of pomegranate seeds. Prized for its rarity, the blood red ruby signifies warmth and sensuality and is closely associated with royal status. A pair of helix drop earrings studded with pigeon’s blood Burmese rubies and diamonds is a key highlight of Fortuna Auction’s upcoming sale. The 18-karat white and yellow gold earrings are crafted with four unheated Burmese rubies, together weighing approximately 3.30 carats. The pieces are also accented with marquise-shaped rose-cut diamonds and round-cut rubies.

Another rare piece is a cocktail ring designed with a 3.38-carat untreated Zambian emerald and diamonds. A no-oil emerald is highly coveted for its lucidity, which is purely natural and not artificially augmented. The sale also offers a Rolex stainless steel GMT-Master wristwatch. Rolex originally produced the model in alliance with Pan American Airways in 1955. The airline then issued the watches to their crew members on long-haul flights. Anzolo Fuga Glass Vessel and Lanceray Bronze Sculpture Available With Millea Bros. Ltd

Yevgeny Lanceray (after), large cossack bronze

In early February, Millea Bros. Ltd will offer a wide selection of paintings, furniture, decorative arts, and more. One of the featured lots on day three of the event is a Murano glass vase attributed to Anzolo Fuga. Born in 1914, Fuga studied at the Istituto d’Arte di Venezia, where he developed a fascination with stained glass. At this time, craftspeople commonly used sheets of homogeneous glass to create stained glass. However, defying conventional ways of glassblowing, Fuga employed glass fragments, murrhine, and glass rods fused with lead and acid to create a distinct visual effect. He then began a stained-glass department at the Istituto d’Arte di Venezia in 1938 and since has contributed to the development of stained glass art. The offered lot is a transparent blown glass vessel decorated with colorful murrhine.

The sale also features a bronze sculpture created after Russian artist Eugene Alexandrovich Lanceray. He was fond of sculpting from a very young age. Over the years, he became associated with Mir iskusstva, a revolutionary Russian art movement in the 19th and 20th centuries. Titled Zaporozhian Cossack after Battle, the available bronze piece shows two horses and an old man. It dates back to 1874. Explore more lots and register to bid online on Bidsquare.

Originals, Copies, Coins, and More From Brunk Auctions

Portrait of King Charles I, Studio of Anthony Van Dyck

Before it was possible to easily manufacture reproductions of art, a copyist was often employed to make suitable replicas. One such artist was Remee van Leemput, who was known to duplicate works by Anthony Van Dyck, the 17th-century Flemish master. One painting that is likely from the hand of Leemput—a portrait of King Charles I wearing the Blue Garter Ribbon—is available in the upcoming Premier Auction from Brunk Auctions. The original is thought to be a pendant to the portrait of the queen, but its whereabouts are unknown.

Other artistic items in the sale include a complete set of 80 etchings, 78 of which are by Rembrandt, bound into a single book; paintings by Édouard Vuillard, Jean Dufy, and Lamar Dodd; and photographic portraits from China by Hedda Hammer. Beyond fine art there are inlaid snuff boxes and pieces of fine ceramics, antique furniture and rugs, Benjamin Franklin half-dollar sets, and more. After nearly 75 years serving the musical needs of rock ‘n roll greats such as KISS, Elton John, The Allman Brothers, Black Sabbath, and others, New York City’s Manny’s Music closed its doors forever. Grigory Gluckmann (1898 - 1973) Oil on Canvas Painting

In advance of Valentine’s Day this February, Akiba Antiques will offer an assortment of fine art, collectibles, porcelain, and furniture for the discerning collector. An oil painting by Russian-born artist Grigory Gluckmann is a key lot. Gluckmann completed his art training shortly before the Russian Revolution began in 1917. Abo Gallery and Auctioneer to Offer Chinese Works of Art

A Chinese Detailed Fortune Gilt Religious Buddha Statue

Hand gestures, known as mudras in the Sanskrit language, are a significant element of Buddhist art. Symbolizing different spiritual meanings, hand positions serve as non-verbal forms of self-expression and communication in Buddhism. These are also used in meditation to evoke a specific state of mind. A Chinese gilt Buddha statue depicting the varadamudra is a key highlight of the End of January Chinese Fine Works of Art sale from Abo Gallery and Auctioneer. The right arm of the statue faces downward with the palm up. The left hand faces up at the Buddha’s navel. The five extended fingers represent morality, kindness, effort, focus, and patience. Signifying compassion and charity, the varadamudra also denotes the act of granting wishes.

Another noteworthy antique lot is a dual-handle Chinese porcelain vase. With intricate floral, vine, and bird motifs, the vase has striking window-frame details. Chinese vases, especially those made of the traditional Kaolin, are particularly sought for their daintiness. Two wooden boxes filled with Chinese coins and money bricks may be of interest to numismatics enthusiasts. In the modern era, Chinese coins are associated with good luck and also hold a place of importance in various traditions. To view the complete catalog and register to bid online, visit Bidsquare.
