Joan Miró Lithograph Presented at New York City Estate Auction

James Mont started his journey in design when he was working at an electrical supply shop in Brooklyn. At the time, he produced an array of self-designed lamps. It was only then that his workmanship reportedly caught the eye of Italian-American mobster Frankie Yale. He commissioned Mont to furnish his house. Shortly after, Mont became one of the most influential designers in the 20th century. His works predominantly centered on Eastern influences. One of his works will star in the upcoming New York City Estate Auction, presented by Auctions at Showplace. The available piece is a mid-century ebonized chest of drawers adorned with peach lacquer elements. 

A Joan Miró abstract lithograph will also be highlighted in the sale. He was a Catalan painter who blended abstract art and Surrealist design. Miró’s later style was based on his perception of the harshness of contemporary life. His trademark biomorphic forms and geometric patterns can be seen in most of his artworks.
