SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA, JUNE 11, 2020 – Turner Auctions + Appraisals is pleased to present Rock ‘n’ Roll Memorabilia from a Roadie on Saturday, June 27, 2020, featuring over 130 posters and memorabilia from a man who has worked with renowned musicians like the Grateful Dead for many years. With items from the 1960s to 2000s, but mostly from the 1960s-1970s, the posters include famous musicians and rock groups such as the Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam, Jerry Garcia, Donovan, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Neon Rose, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver, Country Joe and the Fish, Phil Lesh & Friends, Incubus and others. Other posters of Motown, soul and blues musicians include Sam and Dave, Memphis Slim, Muddy Waters, Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, Ray Charles, Martha and the Vandellas, Reverend Horton Heat, and others.
Event posters include the Hookers Ball, Joint Show, TRPS Festival, Avalon Ballroom, and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The wide range of memorabilia includes Grateful Dead tickets, magazines, calendars and paraphernalia; show and backstage passes; concert and promotional photos; Bill Graham Presents and other vintage handbills; Antone’s (Austin, Texas) R&B calendars; vintage Playboy and Mad magazines; the first issue of Mother Jones; and more. A signed photo of Jackson Browne, Grateful Dead signatures, and an Al Capp drawing of Earthquake McGoon are also included in the sale. Among the auction highlights are a painting of a skull band by Stanley Mouse (Stanley George Miller, also known as Mouse), an American artist renowned for his 1960s psychedelic rock concert poster designs; an unused 1965 Beatles ticket; the 1968 Jimi Hendrix Flying Eyeball poster; and a “Keep on Truckin’…” poster by cartoonist R.
