Platforms Project Shifts 8th Edition Online to Showcase Up-and-Coming Young Artists

Now in its eighth consecutive year, Platforms Project is the international show (May 14 through 31) that indicatively charts the art currently produced through collective initiatives by young artists on the international scene as they join forces to seek answers to contemporary artistic questions.

“This year we will not get together; but creativity and art does not stop, so we shall meet on the internet,” say the organizers, based in Athens. The project is managed by Artemis Potamianou and Michalis Argyrou. The Artistic Director of Platforms Project 2020 is Artemis Potamianou.

Platforms Project establishes a new approach to art viewing via Platforms Project Net, a web-based art fair. “We stay at home, but we continue to create and bring together the voices of the independent art scene, demonstrating the power of art and technology,” say the organizers.

The Platforms Project Net will enable the art-loving public to access the artists’ groups and their works via a digital exhibition. Viewers can try a new experience by visiting the Platforms Project website for 15 days, from 14 to 31 May 2020. A virtual plan view of the ‘Nikos Kessanlis” exhibition space of the Athens School of Fine Arts shows the platforms installed in their digital stands. Viewers can click on a platform’s number and title and see the works presented by each artist in the group (video-art, painting, photography, installations, etc).

In the parallel program of Platforms Project NET 2020, OPEN STUDIOS, Studios of the Athens School of Fine Arts participate, presenting student’s actions and projects. The educational program KIDS LAB is designed for children between 4 to 16 years old from the Dutch platform EX-MÊKH and the artist and art teacher Ellen Rodenberg. The program which is drawing inspiration from the spatial design of the Platforms Project exhibition,  aims to introduce children to contemporary art. The art collectivesplatforms present their ideas in a space-booth which looks like a large cube. During the Platforms Project the children will be invited to participate in creating a mini space (mini booth-cube) with paper, pencils. In their small space they can draw inspiration from the exhibition. The viewer will  be able to watch online a rich and varied programme of 21 online lectures on contemporary art matters, in Greek and English, as well as 22 online performances and videos of the participating groups. Visitors to the new Platforms Project NET may engage in direct, real-time dialogue with the artists over the internet as part of the overall interactive experience.
