This auction will feature fine and diversified antiques coming to market for the first time from various estates. It consists of approximately 375 lots of quality paintings, American, English and Continental furniture, Asian items, silver, decorative accessories and Oriental rugs.

Nine pieces Carlo Bugatti furniture originally purchased from top dealers in London and Paris thirty six years ago will be sold. These well cared for items come from the estate of a Boston financier whose Beacon Street townhouse was featured in the magazine section of the Boston Globe. It consists of armchairs, tables and benches decorated with wrought brass, copper and inlays of pewter and bone.

A collection of German Black Forest carved animals will be sold consisting of dogs, bears and a rare jack rabbit clock, some attributed to the master Swiss carver Walter Mader. The group comes from a long time collector with a well trained eye.

Fine arts are represented by approximately 75 works spanning the 17th through 20th century. There are two newly discovered abstract oil paintings by the African American artist Jack Whitten who recently passed in 2018. A large 1930’s avant garde oil painting of several women by American artist Arthur Bowen Davies has impeccable provenance.

American furniture spans the 18th through the mid-20th century. A signed Herter Brothers art nouveau cabinet with wonderful Japanese inspired inlay was inherited by a Boston gentleman who was unaware it was signed.

New England 18th century furniture is something for which CRN Auctions has a special love. From the home of a long time Massachusetts South Shore collector of Americana comes a pure Chippendale ball and claw foot drop-leaf table in untouched surface. Also from the home is the Stoddard-Greenough family Federal card table acquired directly from the descendants of the family.

Other highlights of American are a small-sized Salem Hepplewhite inlaid bowfront mahogany server, a Queen Anne cherry bonnet-top highboy, and a Newport inlaid pembroke table.

English, Irish and Continental antique furniture also is included Accessories are varied including Grueby pottery, English tea caddies, American and European silver…something for everyone.

From Boston homes come Chinese and Japanese items including two impressive Chinese hardwood highly carved etageres, as well as an extensive collection of Chinese porcelains from a Massachusetts gentleman, and a large Japanese mixed metal signed vase.

Oriental carpet highlights are a dramatic late 19th c. 14 by 20 foot Serapi, and an antique Bidjar library rug. Several other room size rugs and scatter rugs will be sold.
