Amazing Japanese vases

This rare pair of mounted vases, circa 1880-1890, in the Japanese and pre-art nouveau taste, is attributed to Eugène Rousseau and his pupil and later associate Ernest-Baptiste Leveillé, who collaborated with the Escalier de cristal.

During the Ivory Live Tour on Wednesday May 27, Ivory Troyes – Boisseau-Pomez OVV will be offering in Troyes at €10 ,000/15 ,000 this rare pair of mounted vases, from the 1880-1890 period, in the Japanese and pre-art nouveau taste (h. 32 cm). In blown, bubbled and crackled polychrome glass, they consist of two inclined ovoid urns with gold-leaf pearl inclusions and “chalcedony”-treated decoration, and recessed gadroon motifs. The mounts feature dragons in finely chased gilded bronze, resting on an amber-tinted foot. The label “Escalier de Cristal 6 rue Scribe – Rue Auber 1” is affixed to the underside of each vase. At the end of the19thcentury, the famous Parisian store specialized in Sino-Japanese creations under the influence of its new manager : Henry Pannier. These vases are attributed to Eugène Rousseau (1827-1890) and his pupil and later associate Ernest-Baptiste Leveillé (1841-1913), who collaborated with l’Escalier de cristal.
