Wyland Ocean Paintings and Contemporary Art by Mr. Brainwash, Damien Hirst at Robinhood Auctions
May 12, 2024 13:00 EDTPrints, multiples, lithographs, and original paintings and sculptures from prominent modern and contemporary artists will soon be available in Robinhood Auctions’ upcoming sale. Part of the catalog is devoted to the original marine paintings of Robert Wyland. A noted conservation advocate and environmentalist, Wyland is known for his public art, murals, and undersea paintings depicting whales and other creatures. “My art has always been about art and conservation,” Wyland states on his website. “I felt strongly that art could play an important role in bringing attention to environmental issues.” One of the top Wyland lots in the upcoming sale is an original painting showing the silhouette of an octopus. Swirls of blue represent water in the background.
Also available is work by the contemporary French-American street artist Mr. Brainwash (also known as Thierry Guetta). Titled Work Well Together, this mixed-media piece measures approximately 40 inches square and includes the artist’s signature and a certificate of authenticity. Many 20th-century artists are well-represented in this sale. From Joan Miró comes M. 1004 from L’enfance d’Ubu, a framed lithograph depicting three sparsely-drawn figures. It belongs to a limited edition suite portfolio and dates back to 1975. Additional works of interest include Robert Indiana’s The Golden Future of America serigraph, a woodcut print by Jules de Balincourt, and assorted works by Damien Hirst.
