South African One-Ounce Gold Krugerrand Coins Highlight Brunk Auctions’ Upcoming Sale
May 22, 2024 10:00 EDTThe Krugerrand, a South African coin initially minted in 1967, was created by Rand Refinery and the South African Mint. The word “Krugerrand” is a combination of the name of the former President of the South African Republic, Paul Kruger, and rand, the unit of currency. The upcoming Brunk Auctions sale will feature a set of seven South African one-ounce gold Krugerrand coins. These include two dated 1975, one 1976, two 1978, and two 1979. The sale also includes two other sets, each consisting of three South African one-ounce gold coins, dated 1978. The bust of the president is depicted on the obverse, whereas the reverse portrays a stotting springbok, the country’s national animal.
An 18-karat Cartier Maillon Panthére diamond link bracelet leads the jewelry listings. It is designed with three rows of 96 round brilliant-cut diamonds, weighing approximately 3.36 carats. Another striking piece is an 18-karat pearl and diamond lariat necklace by Zonnie Sheik. It is fashioned with nine large baroque pearls, with five of them accented with 234 full-cut diamonds.
