Royal Doulton Character Jugs and Toby Jugs Lead Lion & Unicorn’s Collectors AuctionFeb 23, 2022 09:00 EST
Day 2 of Lion and Unicorn’s upcoming February Collectors Auction will offer Royal Doulton character jugs, Toby jugs, Kevin Francis ceramic works, and other European porcelain items. Each mug or jug in the auction has a unique character, color theme, and backstory. One of the leading lots is the Clown Colorway from Royal Doulton. The character jug is modeled as a funny-looking clown by the artist Harry Fenton. The clown wears a tricorne white hat and white ruffled collar on his neck. The mug bears a Royal Doulton backstamp and was issued between 1951 and 1955 in England.
Another Royal Doulton find in the sale is a teapot. Leslie Harradine and Harry Fenton issued this piece between 1939 and 1960. The central character wears a red waistcoat under a dark green coat with light brown trim and a yellow bow tie. Unique among all the English mugs is a character jug modeled after an elephant trainer who wears a salmon color turban and a dark green coat with gilt highlights. Bidders can also find Mahatma Gandhi and Jesse Owens character mugs by Royal Doulton in the auction. Find the listed items and more on Lion and Unicorn’s website.
