Revere Auctions to Offer Hu Wenming Style Parcel Gilt Bronze Censer and Huanghuali Horseshoe-Back Armchairs
Jul 23, 2024 11:00 EDTThis July, Revere Auctions will present more than 300 Asian and American collectibles in its upcoming auction. Among the highlights is an antique parcel-gilt bronze Chinese censer probably belonging to the late Ming or Qing dynasty. With two looped handles, the piece stands 4.75 inches high and weighs approximately 383.6 grams. It includes intricate decorations along the sides with scholar’s objects such as incense burners and brush pots. According to the auction house, this style is similar to works by Hu Wenming and his workshop. Hu Wenming (1573 – 1620) was one of the most accomplished metalworkers in Chinese history.
A pair of Huanghuali horseshoe-back armchairs is another notable lot. Dating to the 18th century, these horseshoe-back jiaoyi armchairs are considered highly valuable among collectors. Each chair has a paneled seat and characteristically shaped top rails. The back splats have two carved panels depicting lotus plants and a female figure. The legs joined by stretchers come with a footrest. As per the auction house, these chairs are structurally sound and stable. The event also offers objects like an ancient cloisonné incense holder from the Qing dynasty, a large Bactrian camel figure from the Tang dynasty, and a large double Qing embroidery work.
