Irish painter Sir John Lavery was known for his realistic landscapes, portraits, and wartime scenes. He was a member of the Glasgow School of Painting. With an emphasis on brushstrokes, Lavery’s paintings have a sketch-like quality. He was influenced by outdoor and naturalist French styles of art. One such painting by Lavery, titled The Beach Deauville – Morning, is a key highlight of the upcoming sale from Pook & Pook, Inc. The oil on board is characteristic of the lively ambient effect the artist creates in his paintings with his brushwork.
