Phillips’ Upcoming New Now Sale Features Work by Damien Hirst, Kenny Scharf

A Damien Hirst artwork titled Beautiful Dance with the Devil Painting leads the upcoming New Now sale from Phillips. An English artist and art collector, Hirst rose to fame in the 1990s for his art installations displaying dead animals in formaldehyde. The artist has also boldly experimented with sculpture, prints, spin paintings, spot paintings, and works on paper during his career. Beautiful Dance with the Devil Painting belongs to Damien Hirst’s extensive Spin Painting series. Executed in 2007, a flood of emotions and colors oozes out of this work. 

Another lot of interest in this sale is Kenny Scharf’s painting titled Blobz n’ Globz. Executed in 2007, this piece joins biomorphic Surrealist imagery and abstract biology. It highlights the artist’s signature amoeba-like forms in varied hues. American painter Scharf is famous for depicting pop culture icons and caricatures of middle-class Americans in science fiction settings. Scharf’s works have been part of worldwide exhibitions at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, the Salvador Dalí Museum, and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions.
