Pavlos Dionyssopoulos Mixed-Media Sculpture, Dale Chihuly Glass, and More at Revere AuctionsMay 16, 2023 11:00 EDT
Pavlos Dionyssopoulos was a multi-talented Greek artist and sculptor known for his unique paper sculptures. Born in 1930 in Filiatra of Messinias, Dionyssopoulos completed his studies at the Athens School of Fine Arts. His name is closely associated with the Nouveau Realistes movement in France. Dionyssopoulos drew inspiration from everyday objects such as glass, bottles, cups, and jackets. He made paper sculptures from misprinted posters and metal wires. The upcoming Revere Auctions event presents a large mixed-media sculptural work by Dionyssopoulos. Titled Sales Rack I, the art composition from 1967 portrays hanging clothing. It is composed of folded paper strips affixed to a wooden board in true Dionyssopoulos style.
Also highlighted is a four-piece blown glass basket set by the prominent glass artist Dale Chihuly. Born in 1941 in Tacoma, Washington, Dale Chihuly ventured into glass while pursuing interior design at the University of Washington. His works have been displayed in more than 200 museums worldwide. The available lot in varying shades of pink showcases the artist’s mastery over glassblowing. The auction also offers a 4.14-carat diamond ring set, a large diamond and opal ring, oil paintings after works by Raphael, and more.
