Paintings by Antonio Dias and Antonio Jacobsen Lead Showplace’s Upcoming SaleMar 05, 2023 12:00 EST
Antonio Dias was a Brazilian artist who was a significant figure of the Concretist and Tropicália movements. His works were also influenced by Minimalism and Pop Art. An oil painting on board by Dias is a key highlight of the upcoming sale, presented by Showplace. It portrays an Abstract Expressionist composition. Another painting of interest is an artwork attributed to Antonio Jacobsen. Titled New York Yacht Club Regatta, the oil on canvas features marine imagery showing ships sailing in the Long Island Sound. Jacobsen is known to have painted more than 6,000 such maritime compositions. Many of them were commissioned by sea captains.
A large Chinese porcelain ceramic vase also leads the listings. The hand-painted blue and white antique piece is adorned with scrolling foliate motifs, begonia and chrysanthemum patterns, and wave borders. It is styled with two molded ruyi handles with rings. Another notable lot is a contemporary Roche Bobois reclining modular sectional sofa. Each piece is designed with tufted blue suede upholstery and features four buttons to control the recliner and footrest. The two corner pieces have a USB charging port.
