Old Master Drawings

The Sower by Henri-Edmond Cross is a colorful watercolor and pencil drawing on woven paper; it will be available in the upcoming Old Master Drawings auction. In November, Swann Auction Gallery will present this collection of fine art, particularly highlighting this Neo-Impressionist piece. Offering 266 lots, the collection features artists such as Pietro Antonio Novelli, Léon Augustin Lhermitte, and Giovanni Francesco Barbieri. 

Another featured lot is a red chalk drawing by Italian Baroque painter and draftsman, Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (better known as Guercino). He created 106 large altarpieces for churches and 144 other pieces of art in his lifetime. The lot presented in this auction is similar to several altarpieces the artist created of St. Gregory, entitled The Souls Suffering in Purgatory. Another pen-and-ink drawing, Scenes From The Battle Of Vienna, depicts one of many battles that Franceso Monti drew while working for the ruling family of Parma.
