Dane Fine Art’s Luxor Sale Features David LaChapelle Print and Works by Julian Opie, Elizabeth OsborneJul 20, 2023 12:00 EDT
Philadelphia-based artist Elizabeth Osborne has built a career on bridging the interests of formalism and psychology. Her paintings explore the possibilities of line and color without adhering to a specific artistic movement. A 1985 painting by Osborne will soon come to auction in Dane Fine Art’s Luxor Sale of Modern & Contemporary Art. The offered piece, titled Still Life with Amish Quilt, makes extensive use of symmetry and symbolism. Three vases holding irises dominate the middle ground. Before them is a plate of peaches, a pale pink conch shell, and a notebook. Another notable lot in the auction is a contemporary woodblock print on paper by Jim Dine. The Red Talisman was executed in 2018 and comes from a limited edition of five.
Among the top lots of this sale is a 1998 chromogenic print depicting professional tennis star Anna Kournikova by David LaChapelle. The carefully-crafted photo places Kournikova in a cherry red outfit, standing beside a matching leather couch. Her pose evokes a rock star, with a tennis racket in place of a guitar. Several contemporary works by Mr. Brainwash are available as well, including Watch Out! (Large Red), a 2019 screenprint that references Keith Haring’s “Barking Dog” motif.
