Austin Auction Gallery’s Upcoming Four-Day Sale Offers Fine Art, Decorative Art, Furniture, and More

Austin Auction Gallery’s upcoming four-day sale features an array of artworks, furniture, decorative art, jewelry, Asian antiques, and more. Leading the auction is a patinated bronze sculpture titled Maternidad en Cuclillas by Francisco Zúñiga (1912 – 1998), a Costa Rican-born Mexican artist. Zúñiga was known for his figurative paintings and sculptures. The available lot has an incised signature and is numbered ‘V / VI’ on the base. Zúñiga’s parents were sculptors. He took inspiration from German Expressionists and renowned sculptor Auguste Rodin for his early artistic renditions. Another notable lot is a mid-century modern bronze dining table designed by French artist Michel Mangematin (1928 – 2012). The table has a circular colorless glass top and a sculptural bronze base comprising three intersecting curves.

Among the highlights of the fourth day of this event is an 18-karat white gold and diamond tennis necklace. This elegant piece has 107 graduated diamonds, weighing approximately 24.60 carats. The diamonds are of H to I color with VS-SI clarity. Tennis necklaces can be traced back to the early 19th century, when they were considered status symbols. A tennis bracelet set in 14-karat rose gold is also noteworthy. It has 45 diamonds together measuring approximately eight carats. Additional lots available in the auction include a Rolex Oyster Perpetual wristwatch with a gold-tone bezel, a French mid-century modern Macassar ebony sideboard, and more.
