Michael Keane (1948-2015) was a preeminent marine artist. Drawing inspiration from the sea, his oil paintings depict sailing vessels of a by-gone era. Keane’s work is focused on yachts and sailboats in motion. The upcoming auction, ‘Annual “Cabin Fever” Auction’, presented by Eldred’s Auction, will feature Keane’s oil on canvas down-easter ‘Paul Revere’ approaching Boston Harbor along with several other notable works.
The wide array of furniture will include an antique Chippendale serpentine front four-drawer chest. Made out of mahogany, the four drawer chest has a conforming molded–edge top. A pair of 19th-century whale ivory and whalebone canes are among the highlighted lots. The auction also includes items like a mid-19th-century Scrimshaw whale’s tooth. The piece depicts two doves holding an olive branch at the tip. Sculptures, lamps, and baskets will also be a part of the auction.
