Christie’s will present their upcoming American Art auction in November, set to feature artists such as Norman Rockwell, Edward Hopper, Marsden Hartley, and many others. Showcased in this sale is Andrew Wyeth’s tempera panel painting entitled Oliver’s Cap. Wyeth was primarily known for his realism, often showing the natural landscapes around him within his paintings. This lot depicts a blue-and-white umbrella providing shade on a grass lawn, a white farmhouse in the background.
Another highlighted item is a nautical painting by Newell Convers Wyeth. Oh, Morgan’s men are out for you; and Blackbeard–buccaneer! conveys an emotional and appealing story through its balance of light and color. Not to be left out is Norman Rockwell’s Harvest Moon (Young Lovers). This oil painting shows a young couple sitting on a hay bale beneath the full moon.
