Johan Rohde began a long and significant collaboration with the Georg Jensen Silversmithy after commissioning several of his own designs. Impressed with the results, Jensen secured a long-term contract with Rohde seven years later. A selection of the resulting collaborative works will be offered in the upcoming Johan Rohde and Georg Jensen auction, offered by Greg Pepin Silver. Many of the available lots were made in Rohde’s Art Deco style, which he helped advance within the silver market. Works from the Acorn/ Konge pattern from 1915 and the Scroll/ Saga pattern from 1927 are especially highlighted in this sale. A large sterling silver centerpiece bowl in the latter pattern is among the featured lots. Designed in 1917 and executed between 1945 and 1977, it has a hammered pedestal base with a floral center.
Another key vintage item in this auction is a pre-war sterling silver tea and coffee service with a matching tray. The lot includes a coffee pot, teapot, cream jug, and sugar bowl, all with ebony handles. This set was designed by Rohde around 1928 and bears individually-stamped hallmarks. A set of Acanthus silverware will be presented as well. The sister pattern to the Acorn, the Acanthus emphasized small scrolled details on each piece.
