Day 1: Summer VIP Collections, Live-Online Only

French painter and printmaker Max Papart's paintings and graphics were suffused with sunny humor and the bright colors of the French Riviera, where he was born. Working in the Cubist style, Papart depicted circus scenes, soaring birds, and similar cheerful subjects. As Papart said, his paintings "force the viewer to think, and it is for the viewer to respond to the art based on his own personal experiences." The upcoming Summer VIP Collections auction, presented by Great Gatsby's Auction Gallery, Inc., features a mixed media collage by Papart. Titled Blue, Red, and Five, the work depicts symbols, numbers, and a blackbird. Also among the leading lots is a glass sculpture by Jay Musler. An American artist, Musler began creating in response to the alienation, violence, and crime that he found in modern cities. Taking inspiration from the urban environment, his constructions often include sharp lattices and cracked forms. Titled The Mask, the offered work resembles a small rectangular building with a peaked roof. Beyond fine and decorative art, the auction also includes a collection of handbags, furniture pieces, rugs, and more. Browse the full catalog and register to bid on Invaluable.

Day 1: May VIP Collection, Online-Only Auction

Although Joan Miró was influenced by several movements, including Fauvism, Cubism, and Dadaism, it was the Surrealist movement that stood out for the artist. A highly influential figure in 20th-century Spanish painting, Miró was a fantasy painter, ceramicist, printmaker, and designer. In describing his work, the artist once said: "The spectacle of the sky overwhelms me. There, in my pictures, tiny forms in huge empty spaces. Empty spaces, empty horizons, empty plains – everything which is bare has always greatly impressed me." The first day of the upcoming May VIP Collection, Online-Only Auction, presented by Great Gatsby’s Auction Gallery, Inc., features a lithograph by Miró. Executed in 1961, the lithograph shows abstract shapes in green, teal, orange, and yellow. A black star is placed in the lower left. Another key lot is a men's Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust watch. Released to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Rolex, the Datejust was the first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch to display the date in a window. The available lot is crafted of stainless steel and 18-karat gold. The auction also features an Italian fountain with a standing cherub and a dolphin at the top. The circular basin contains four additional cherubs. Interested collectors can explore the full listings and register to bid online on Invaluable.

Day 2: May VIP Collection, Online-Only Auction

Although Pablo Picasso is recognized for many things, he is perhaps best known for his unwavering eagerness to experiment. From Neoclassicism to Cubism, he participated in a wide variety of artistic styles. In 1946, Picasso visited Vallauris, France for the first time with Françoise Gilot. The town was known for its pottery, and Picasso quickly became enamored with ceramics. Soon, he began producing his own and gifting them to friends and family members. Available on the second day of the May VIP Collection, Online-Only Auction, presented by Great Gatsby’s Auction Gallery, Inc., is a 1953 pitcher by Picasso. Titled Femme du Barbu, the white earthenware ceramic pitcher is colored with engobe and glaze. Widely celebrated for his Impressionist snow scenes, Walter Emerson Baum used the plein-air style to capture the Pennsylvania countryside. A painting titled Pennsylvania Winter by Baum will be highlighted in this auction. The piece depicts a winding river cutting through a snowy landscape. Several furniture pieces will also be included. Among these is a 19th-century Gothic Revival table. Made from golden oak, the table features an intricately carved apron and four legs with cathedral tracery. Day 1: Luxury Estates & Private Collections

When an object is described as “larger than life,” it is usually about importance rather than size. However, this idiom applies— in both a literal and figural sense—to the two-day August auction by Great Gatsby’s Auction Gallery. It is a sale of magnitude and astounding proportions, and many pieces are truly larger than life. 1,100 distinct lots will be available over both days, with categories ranging from furniture and sculpture to jewelry and decorative art.  Day 1: A strong opening, the first day takes samples from centuries of design and decorative art. The leading lot is an early 20th-century pool table that sports luxury details (enamel and mother of pearl diamond accents) and a satinwood inlay. This collection is expansive and whimsical, including a colorful wall weaving sculpture and a Japanese monkey teapot.
