    Classic and Contemporary Art Auction

With much influence of art history, no auction covers the graceful interplay between vintage and modern art like Classic and Contemporary Art Auction. The forthcoming sale may be judged by items of outstanding quality, among their kinds.  Looking at some of the highlights, an abstract mixed media artwork by Laura Grisi is recognizable and has established value. Her works attempt to leap beyond the boundaries of Italian Pop Art, eager to play with the idea of variability. Besides that, is a 1934 cover page illustration of Parents' magazine featuring two rosy-cheeked babies by Ellen Pyle. The auction puts forward the works of Earl Staley who opted to layer multiple perceptions into his canvas, visually expressing primitive folklore, classical mythology and history. Never has one been able to discover a piece as timeless as a photograph. And it is worth more when it’s a still of Tom Cruise (1996) and George Harrison (1988) by Alistair Morrison. Mid Century, Custom, Contemporary, Decorative Accessories, Art Auction

Nadeau’s Auction Gallery has recently had the opportunity to make their auctions larger and better. They have succeeded with the Mid Century, Custom, Contemporary, Decorative Accessories, Art Auction. The auction offers Mid-century modern art, furniture, and accessories. Mid-century modern art is generally referred to art created between the mid-1940s through the early 1970s. It focuses on turning geometrical shapes into curves and waves or have jagged edges and an artsy roughness. The furniture from this time was often sculptural, yet functional.    Edward Wormley (1907-1995) began designing furniture for the Dunbar Furniture Company during the Depression. His sophisticated, yet mainstream designs were very successful. Included in this auction is an Edward Wormley for Dunbar Avocado Tuxedo sofa, with original Dunbar upholstery, circa the 1950s. A more contemporary item featured in the auction is an eight-piece teak set that includes a rectangular table with six armchairs and a tea cart. Teak wood makes for great outdoor furniture because it has greater naturally weather-resistant properties than most other types of wood. Visit Bidsquare to view all 431 pieces of this Mid-century auction.

Summer auction. Modern & Contemporary Art

The Summer auction of Modern & Contemporary Art, offered by Morton Subastas, is a single-night auction consisting of paintings, drawings and sculptures from Mexico and Latin America. Among the most valuable pieces offered is a small, haunting work by Sergio Hernández, in which the ghostly figures seem to be spiriting toward the viewer. Hernández is a Mexican postwar, contemporary painter born in 1957. His work has been featured in many museums including Palazzo delle Esposizioni and the Latino Art Museum, and two of his paintings can be found here.  In contrast, a more playful drawing (though admittedly disturbing at first glance) by Lalo Sánchez del Valle, is titled “Psico Van Gogh” (which translates “Psycho Van Gogh”). It is a reinterpretation of Vincent Van Gogh’s “Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear and Pipe”. The original was painted while Van Gogh was institutionalized and after he had attempted to cut off his own ear. This new version is unmistakable in its use of the original as source material, but shows the face of a man no longer in touch with reality, alarmingly bringing the artists inner turmoil to the surface.  Also featured is a large panoramic landscape-style painting comprised of 15 total pieces of oil on wood. The full work measures 2.75 x 10.20 meters, and vividly demonstrates a kind of distorted realism that is both attractive and disorienting. The auction further includes a fine selection of self-portraits by varied Latinx artists such as José Luis Cuevas, Carlos Orozco Romero, Ana Mercedes Hoyos, and Arnaldo Roche-Rabell. The art series is filled with magnificent examples of 20st Century art, portrait paintings, and landscapes. Eldred’s Auctioneers and Appraisers sale is a dedication to the very iconic works of today. William R. Davis exhibits his oil on canvas with the quality of immersing a viewer at a glance. Entitled Sunset Rendevous, his work depicts the serenity of a warm sunset. Davis displays his painting alongside other remarkable artists including Michael Joseph who illustrates expressions through colors and Joseph McGurl. Added to the collection is a noteworthy piece by Richard K. Loud. His attention to his subjects makes his style of work rather moving and life-like. Contemporary Collector XI

For sophisticated modern art, look no further than Artsy & Doyle’s eleventh installment of Doyle: Contemporary Collector.  Offering prints, editions, and original works of both painting and sculpture, this 34-piece collection offers contemporary art that is as accessible as it is dynamic.  Harmoniously curated, there are pieces that are quieter and muted alongside bold and bright pop art, making for an unusual collection of inclusion and diversity in the Artsy hosted auction. This diversity extends to the artists themselves, as female painters and sculptors like Edda Renouf and Yayoi Kusama are featured alongside L. Pope and José Damasceno.  Renouf’s abstract mid-century painting Juxtapose is included as well as two screen prints by highly influential artist and educator Josef Albers.  Damasceno’s ink stamp patterns are complex in their austerity, and Kusama’s famous patterns of dots are featured on pumpkin ceramics.  These works and many others compose an auction that is itself interesting in it’s variety.
