Turner Auctions + Appraisals to Offer the Julianna Southall Glumac Collection of Art & Decorative arts
Turner Auctions + Appraisals will present the Julianna Southall Glumac Collection on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 10:30 am PDT, featuring a diverse and eclectic selection of artwork and decorative arts, mostly from the 18th-20th centuries. Mrs. Glumac was owner and curator of Southall Antiques, one of San Francisco's finest antique dealers for 20 years.
The online auction offers 195 lots from Julianna Southall Glumac's private collection and select items from her exquisitely curated shop. Acquired from her many travels at home and abroad for dealers and markets all over the United States and Europe, each piece in this collection was selected with an eye towards elegance and exceptional provenance. The collection includes items from a variety of American, European and Asian historical periods.
Turner Auctions + Appraisals begins its online auction on Sunday, August 18, 2019, at 10:30 am PDT; sale items are available for preview and bidding now. The auction will be featured live on four platforms: LiveAuctioneers, Invaluable, Bidsquare and Turner Auctions + Appraisals’ free mobile app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Apps ("Turner Auctions"). All are easily accessed through ‘Upcoming Auctions’ at the company’s website.
The collection's extensive selection of artworks from the 19th and 20th centuries offers oils, watercolors, gouaches, mixed media, ink and lithographs; artists include Carl Haefner and Carl Hugo Rudolf Jonas. Other items include tapestry fragments, gilt frame mirrors, photographs of Paris, colored butterfly prints, botanicals, crystal pieces, altar stick and other lamps, crystal chandeliers, 19th-century stoneware pots, several African pieces, console tables, books and catalogs, and more. Among the statues and sculpture are a bronze head of Zeus and a blackamoor. Sterling and silver-plated items include flatware, candlesticks, coffee & tea sets and trays. The large selection of Asian items, mostly from China, includes Pu Ru calligraphy scrolls, jade carvings, tea cups, a fluted dish, ginger and gourd jars, blue & white vases, cinnabar boxes, lions and a censer of hardstone, and amber necklaces.

Lot 167: A Wire Mesh Purse with a 19th-Century Chinese Jade and Silver Handle, depicting various animals. Measuring 5 inches high x 6 wide in a modern presentation box. Estimate: $2,000-3,000.
Lot 51: Gouache on Paper of Dancers. Frame: 21 ½ inches high x 24 ¾ wide. Image: 19 ½ inches high x 22 ½. Condition overall good. Auction label on reverse, "Attributed to Boris Gregoiev." Estimate: $2,000-3,000.
Lot 72: A 17th-Century Continental Tapestry Fragment. Dimensions: 78 inches high x 43 ½. Condition good. Linen backed for protection. Estimate: $1,500-2,500.
Lot 161: A Chinese Fluted Porcelain Dish, Yung-Cheng Reign Mark (1723 - 1735), measuring 1 1/2 inches high x 7 1/2 diameter. Estimate: $800-1,200.
Lot 65: Bronze Blackamoor. A modern and large bronze replica depicting an antique blackamoor. Note: extremely large and heavy to ship. Size: 84 inches in height approximately. Estimate: $1,500-2,000.
Lot 39: Oil painting by Carl Hugo Rudolf Jonas (1822 - 1888). Frame: 25 ½ inches high x 21. Image: 20 inches high x 16. Condition good. Estimate: $500-700.
Lot 68: An 18th-Century Continental Gilt Frame Mirror. Frame: 42 inches high x 21 wide x 2 ½ deep. Mirror: 17 ½ inches high x 14. Overall good condition. Some loss to gilding and mirror silver. Estimate: $500-$700.
Lot 165: A 19th Century Carved Jade Sculpture of Cranes Entwined in Reeds, measuring 3 inches high x 3 1/2 wide x 2 1/2 deep. 19th century or earlier in a modern presentation box. Estimate: $2,000-3,000.
Lot 78: An 835 Silver Tea and Coffee Set. A continental four piece silver coffee and tea set marked 835. Approx. 2000 grams. Estimate: $700-900.
Lot 190: Three Chinese Blue and White Vases. Two unmarked blue and white Chinese vases, measuring 13 1/2 inches high x 6 diameter, and 11 inches high x 6 1/2 diameter; and one marked T'ung-Chih Tongzhi (1862-1874), measuring 10 inches high x 6 wide x 4 1/2 deep (hairline crack to rim). Estimate: $300-500.
Lot 174: A Pair of Pu Ru (1896-1963) Calligraphy Scrolls. Each measuring 39 inches high x 5 1/2 wide. Estimate: $7,000-9,000.
Lot 73: A Late 18th-/Early 19th-Century Continental Paper Seven-Panel Screen. Dimensions: 88 inches high x 129 ½ inches wide. Condition: Fair to good. Estimate: $1,500-2,500.
