Exceptional antique original oil on board by American Post-Impressionist landscape artist Chauncey Foster Ryder whose paintings are held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; The National Gallery, Wash. DC.; The Art Institute of Chicago, and in the most discerning private collections. Known for his outstanding use of a green-grey palette (the Ryder green), he focuses on a directly observed countryside scene where two farmers in a cart are pulled by two massive oxen. Ryder paints with broad abstracted brushstrokes, dabs of white and purple-pink impasto, and ranges of warm browns and light blue that result in a splendid overall tonalism. He depicts a rocky Canyon Path with Native American dwellings that he paints with flowing expressive brushstrokes, and applies impasto onto the clouds, bushes, and rocks. 1 Large 18th century plaster and wire under glass button. Here is one of the top rarities in the auction. The white figure is carved plaster set over a green painted background and bordered in a fine wire patterned design and all set under glass with a copper rim and tin back. The late Freddie Speights (NBS bulletin Editor for 20 years) and others said many years ago that they only knew of 12 of these to exist. Here is your opportunity to own one of these very hard to find 18th century examples.
