From the world-renowned Eagle’s Nest Mine in California, this truly spectacular example of a crystallized Gold on Quartz is a superb specimen and one ideal representation of the coveted Placer County material which is so prized among collectors. This leafy and striking specimen offers two sides which could easily be the primary display face, and this finer Gold is highly dimensional, unusually solid and extremely brilliant for the variety. The museum specimen once belonged in the collection of Hubert Charles de Monmonier and is presented on a custom engraved acrylic base. This is simply an exquisite crystallized Gold over two naturally artistic faces with incredible provenance, collector aesthetics and truly stunning, visual appeal.

Frame has chips and cracks throughout, otherwise good condition. Craquelure through center portion of painting. There is a 2″ split in the paint in the upper right corner. Some overpainting to both figures and both dogs, and a small amount of overpainting in the background. Overall uneven varnish sheen. “The Golden Hours, The Paintings of Arthur J. Elsley 1860-1952” by Terry Parker, hardbound reference book included with this lot.

Shade and base are the original package. Shade is signed Tiffany Studios New York. Base is signed Tiffany Studios New York 6535. An exceptional example of this iconic lamp that rarely appears on the market. Excellent original condition with a fine original patina. Exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art 2009. A similar lamp base & shade is shown on page 69 in “Tiffany Lamps and Metalware” by Alastair Duncan, on page 108 in “The Lamps of Louis Comfort Tiffany” by Martin Eidelberg, Alice Cooney Frelinghuysen, Nancy A. McClelland, and Lars Rachen, and on page 292 in “Louis C. Tiffany The Garden Museum Collection” by Alastair Duncan.
