Aerosmith was one of the most popular hard rock bands of the 1970s. To honor the legacy of the band and raise money for charity, Julien’s Auctions will present the upcoming Musicares’ 30th Anniversary Person Of The Year Charity Auction. The sale features signed guitars from Eddie Vedder, Taylor Swift, and Harry Styles. The available items range from custom made and signed music memorabilia to a VIP meet and greet with Aerosmith. Standing out in this auction is a set of custom made microphones from BTS. The lot includes seven signed microphones that the South Korean pop band used between 2017 and 2019. The first African-American artist to enjoy a solo exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art was self-taught, relatively unknown, and lacked professional tools and materials. William Edmondson was discovered by a photographer for Harper’s Bazaar who stumbled across his lawn full of sculptures while in Nashville, Tennessee. One of the sculptures seen in that key photograph will be offered in the first session of Case Antiques’ upcoming Winter Fine Art, Antique, and Jewelry Auction. Edmondson carved The Preacher from one of his signature limestone blocks, using a railroad spike as a chisel. The piece reflects the spiritual call that prompted Edmondson to begin sculpting late in life.

Highlighted prominently in the second session of this auction is a pair of Napoleon III style Boulle work cabinets by Henry Dasson. Each cabinet has a marble top, two doors, and side panels decorated with marquetry. Known as a leading maker of bronze mounted furniture in the 19th century, Dasson’s works are known for the quality of bronze and precise chiseling seen on his pieces.
Also highlighted in this auction is an Italian Renaissance Revival carved and painted mahogany case clock. This piece has an arched hood, topped with winged putti. The painted moon dial bears Arabic numerals. Among the available jewelry lots, a platinum ring with a central oval sapphire surrounded by 24 diamonds is featured. Alexandrite, a gemstone discovered in Russia, was named after the country’s Tsar Alexander II. Most alexandrite deposits were exhausted by the end of the 1900s, making the uncommon gem a prized possession among the Russian royalty. Highlighted in the upcoming Furniture, Fine Art, Jewelry and Timepieces, Asian Art auction, offered by Clars Auction Gallery, is an 8.44 carat oval-cut alexandrite and white gold ring. The main stone is surrounded by 176 full-cut diamonds.

The French Renaissance occurred between the 15th and early 17th centuries. This cultural and artistic movement began when Francis I, a patron of the arts, took the throne. In response, French craftsmen created deeply carved furniture to reflect Roman sensibility. These craftsmen designed furniture inspired by Michelangelo and Raphael, often depicting mythological and biblical themes. Award-winning illustrator Robert Riggs ran away from home when he was young to join the circus. Best known for showing boxing matches and circus scenes in his giant lithographs, he was particularly passionate about the muscular male form. One of Riggs’ lithographs, titled Little Brown Brother, will be featured in the upcoming Antique & Vintage Quality Prints auction, presented by Artelisted. The lithograph captures a boxing match: the fighter is sitting in one corner as a referee shouts instructions. In the background are spectators watching the ring with interest.
Original Antique Maitres de L’Affiche PL.95 by Theophile Steinlen will also be available. Steinlen was best known for his lithographic posters from the 1890s and his paintings depicting the working class. The present lot shows his daughter drinking milk. Sitting at her feet are his cats, who stare at the girl intently. In 1984, National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry was assigned to photograph refugee camps along the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan. As he made rounds in the camps, he encountered a class of schoolgirls where one girl, in particular, stood out for her startling sea-green eyes. She was photographed by McCurry. Her portrait made its first appearance on the cover of the June 1986 National Geographic magazine. A print of the Afghan Girl photograph will be offered in the upcoming Fine Prints, Multiples & Photographs sale, presented by Skinner. National Geographic describes the subject’s eyes as “… haunted and haunting, and in them, you can read the tragedy of a land drained by war.”

The Nancy School became popular for its Art Nouveau designers and artisans, which included Daum, Louis Majorelle, and Eugène Vallin. The upcoming auction offered by will feature works from the 1901 vice presidents of the École de Nancy. Particularly highlighted is a salon suite by French cabinet maker Louis Majorelle. The carved giltwood furniture reflects the signature symbolism and naturalism in Majorelle’s work. A featured mahogany vitrine cabinet and sofa by Eugène Vallin is another notable lot.
