Decorations in order behind a Persian distinction
Once again, chivalry joins world history : this jewel bears witness to this, as do the many others that surround it.

Estimation : 60 000/80 000 €
Here’s a decoration that echoes today’s most burning issues, as it comes from Iran, during the Persian era and the reign of Mozaffareddine Shah (1896-1907). The sovereign looked to Europe, which he visited on several occasions, and was interested in modernity, particularly the beginnings of cinema. On his return, he tried to democratize his country, granting it a constitution in 1906, thus creating a constitutional monarchy. It was also under his reign that a concession gave the United Kingdom effective control of Iranian oil for sixty years… This silver-lined gold jewel, set with diamonds – which will be presented on Thursday, April 2 – shows a full-length bust of him, wearing a uniform and holding his saber. He is a member of the Order of the Imperial Portrait, the highest distinction founded in 1856 by his father, Nassereddine Shah (1848-1896). That same afternoon, the phaleristics will continue the journey, as after Iran – while remaining in the Eurasian area – we’ll be heading for Russia and China. From the former will come a1st classcross with gold and enamel crown from the Order of Saint Anne, dating from themid-19th century ( €30,000/40 ,000) . It bears the hallmarks of the court’s official supplier, William Keibel. This order of chivalry, although founded in the duchy of Holstein-Gottorp in memory of Peter the Great’s daughter, became one of the most popular during the reign of the Russian tsars after its integration into the Russian orders under the reign of Paul theFirst. A dynastic order designed to reward outstanding service, it was accompanied by the motto : “Justice, piety and loyalty to those who love.” The decoration is estimated at €30,000/40 ,000 . The same amount is paid for a large cord set comprising a sun-shaped vermeil jewel and a plate, both decorated with the five-clawed imperial dragon chasing the sacred pearl. This set is unique in that it belongs to the Order of the Illustrious Dragon, founded in 1934 when northeastern China was called “Manchukuo” and was under Japanese rule. It was actually produced in the archipelago between 1934 and 1945, with only 33 people holding it. It was reported by the secretary of General MacArthur, commander of the occupation forces after the American victory. World history again…
