Christie’s announces London Editions Prints & Multiples Online Sales

LONDON.- London Editions presents three online-only sales dedicated to prints, multiples and editions tracing artistic production from modern to contemporary artists, all of which are open for bidding from 10 September 2020. Prints & Multiples: Modern to Pop (10-22 September 2020) will showcase classic modern and pop prints. Amongst the Modern highlights are prints by Pablo Picasso, including the lithograph Grand tête de femme au chapeau (1962, estimate: £40,000-60,000), a rare impression of La toilette de la mère (1905, estimate: £50,000-70,000), and Femme au Fauteuil No. 4 (1948, estimate: £50,000-70,000). A Private European collection of early prints by Joan Miró features several surrealist rarities including La Baigneuse (1938, estimate: £10,000-12,000). The Post-war and Pop prints are led by Andy Warhol’s Queen Elizabeth II (Royal Edition) (1985, estimate: £100,000-150,000) which is presented alongside Bora Bora by David Hockney (1980, £6,000-8,000) as well as examples by Francis Bacon and Roy Lichtenstein.

Contemporary Edition (10-23 September 2020) will highlight a selection of Post-War and Contemporary prints & multiples, including works by George Condo, Damien Hirst, Alex Katz, William Kentridge, Jeff Koons, Tschabalala Self and David Shrigley. The sale is led by Bridget Riley’s early masterpiece Untitled [Based on Primitive Blaze] (1962, estimate: £40,000-60,000) and by the portfolio of four screenprints after Jean-Michel Basquiat, Wolf Sausage, King Brand, Dog Leg Study, Undiscovered Genius (1982-83/2019, estimate: £50,000-70,000). A further highlight is The Fertility Suite: One Plate by Keith Haring (1983, estimate: £20,000-30,000).

Banksy: I can’t believe you morons actually buy this sh*t’ (10-23 September 2020) is titled in homage to the artist’s Morons screenprint. The source image of this work is a photograph of the record-breaking sale of Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers at Christie’s in 1987, with van Gogh’s canvas replaced by Banksy’s text. The sale is led by a rare artist’s proof of Girl with Balloon – Colour AP (Purple) (2004, estimate: £250,000-350,000), and features some of the artist’s best-known and coveted screenprints. This is the second iteration of Christie’s sale dedicated to Banksy’s prints and editions.

All of the works in London Editions are currently on view at Christie’s King Street until 22 September 2020.
