This Parvati wascast in South India in the18th or19th century.

On Wednesday April 29, at 37, rue des Mathurins (Tajan. Cabinet Ansas, Papillon & de Léry), a group of 18th and 19th century Indian and Nepalese bronzes by Josef R. was sold. Belmont (1886-1981). Among them was this Parvati (h. 47.5 cm) cast in South India in the 18th or 19th centuries, which fetched €10,858, compared with €1 ,456 for Krishna Venugopala (h. 31 cm – see Gazette no. 16, page 47), also from India and playing the flute in the18th century. Outside the collection, a Chinese bronze by Duowen Tianwang (h. 44 cm), also known as Vaishravana, fetched €15 , 888 . Dating back to the Qing dynasty (1644-1912), this “lokapala” guardian king of the North, standing, holds a small stupa in his left hand, while leaning on a stick with his right.
