Works by Thomas Hart Benton, William Franklin Jackson, and More at Circle Auction
Oct 28, 2023 11:00 EDTThe latest Kansas City Collections: Art, Antiques, & Jewelry sale from Circle Auction will offer over 150 lots of fine art pieces by the likes of Thomas Hart Benton, William Franklin Jackson, and more. Leading the sale is a lithograph of Thomas Hart Benton’s Sorghum Mill from 1969. An American painter and muralist, Thomas Hart Benton was a key figure of the Regionalist art movement of the 1930s. A common theme in his paintings is the depiction of the everyday activities of ordinary people. Portraits, landscapes, and people working in factories, farms, and urban centers were among the subjects of his drawings and paintings. Throughout Benton’s murals, a vibrant representation of American life in the early days of the country is depicted. An everyday rural scene is depicted in this matted lithograph.
Another lot of interest in this sale is an oil painting by William Franklin Jackson titled Coast Near San Francisco. A talented painter from California, Jackson was best known for his paintings of poppy fields. He incorporated Impressionist elements into his paintings to evoke the vibrant spring wildflowers, such as poppies and lupins, that carpeted California hillsides in the spring. The available oil on canvas piece is inscribed “W. F. Jackson” at the bottom left and titled on the back.
