The blue and violet variety of the mineral zoisite, better known as tanzanite, is found exclusively in Tanzania. One of the highlights in the upcoming Wholesale Trading auction, presented by Kodner Galleries, is a blue tanzanite and diamond ring. Also among the key lots are two emerald and diamond necklaces. One has a lace-like diamond detail accenting a green octagonal emerald while the other was designed as a pendant. An alexandrite ring with diamonds is featured as well. Alexandrite is a major variety of chrysoberyl. The gemstone’s ability to change colors in artificial (tungsten/ halogen) light is among its distinctive properties.
The auction also showcases an icy blue unheated Burmese sapphire and diamond ring. Myanmar (Burma) is a world leader in the production of both sapphires and rubies. They are generally found in the same geographical settings but have distinct geological formations. While both are found in the Mogok Stone Tract in Myanmar, rubies form in marble and sapphires form in corundum syenites/ granitic pegmatites.
