Vintage Venetian Glass Mirror and Modern British Furniture Come to Sale With Austin Auction Gallery
Sep 06, 2024 11:00 EDTCreated in the Gothic style, the Doge’s Palace is a prominent Venetian landmark in northern Italy. Once the residence of the Doge of the former Republic of Venice, it was converted into a museum in 1923. Portraying this scenic palace, a striking Venetian glass micromosaic mirror (late 19th century) is a key highlight of the upcoming auction from Austin Auction Gallery. It is adorned with polychrome flowers and also depicts an iconic gondola in a lagoon and the San Marco Column. Other lots of interest include an ormolu and patinated bronze putti French mantel clock and a pair of candelabra. Bidders can also consider a Tibetan gilt bronze set of Palden Lhamo, Chakrasamvara, and gilt metal-clad stupa. While the Palden figure is depicted holding a sword, Chakrasamvara is portrayed embracing his consort Vajravarahi.
Two G Plan ‘fresco’ mid-century teak sideboards/credenzas also lead the listings. The British brand, produced by E Gomme Ltd, is known for manufacturing varied styles of modern furniture. Another key 20th century piece is a Dyrlund rosewood ‘skyline’ executive desk. The Danish desk is designed with a rectangular top and two shallow frieze drawers.
