In Tibetan Buddhism, a mandala painting is symbolic of the universe. Intricately executed, every detail has a meaning associated with it. One of the noteworthy lots in the upcoming auction of vintage lithographs, presented by Artelisted, is a Tibetan Buddhist mandala painting in cobalt blue. With its geometric configuration, the painting has spiritual importance in Buddhism. The lot formerly belonged to a World War II veteran collector based in Georgia. Another highlight is a vintage lithograph titled The Rapidity of Sleep by Yves Tanguy. The French Surrealist painter was known for his expansive landscapes with abstract shapes. His palette was generally restricted with sporadic color-blocked accents.
Greek photographer Elli Sougioultzoglou-Seraidari, also known as Nelly’s, was credited with bringing the visual imagery of Greece to the Western world. A photograph by Nelly’s showing small clinging houses is another key lot of the auction. The sale also features several rare French postcards. The postcards come in a regular size of approximately 3.5 inches by 5.5 inches. To view the complete catalog of vintage lithographs and register to bid online, visit Artelisted.
