Two-Session Sale From March in Montana Auction Offers Rudolph Gorman’s Paintings, Bronze Sculpture From Bill Nebeker, and More

This upcoming two-session sale from March in Montana Auction features a variety of Western, historical, and contemporary works of art, as well as Native American collectibles.  Leading the first day of the sale are two oil paintings by Rudolph Carl Gorman. A Navajo artist, Gorman introduced the magical Southwest desert landscape and Native American culture to the American art scene. The representations of Navajo women in Gorman’s work often make use of traditional stone lithography and pastel, set against a serene desert landscape. Other notable works in the catalog include an oil on canvas painting by Lone Wolf. One of the Old West’s most colorful figures, Lone Wolf (also known as Hart M. Schultz) was a bridge between Old and New West cultures. He was also a pioneer in Native American academic painting, with his people the subject of most of his work. The offered piece has Lone Wolf’s signature in the lower left corner. 

Among the top lots in the second session of this event is a bronze sculpture with an inscription by American artist Bill Nebeker. The sculptures of Nebeker capture the realities of ranch life in the American West. A touch of humor and gentle tributes mark the artist’s work.
