The Collector: English & European 18th & 19th Century Furniture, Ceramics, Silver & Works of ArtOct 15, 2019 10:00 EDT
The beautiful French town Aubusson is more popular for its one particular product rather than the countryside picturesque that it offers. With over 6 centuries of the rich history of producing large and beautiful tapestries, Aubusson tapestry is a prominent example of the French culture. A pair of fine and massive French Aubusson tapestries, ‘le depart de la chasse au Faucon’ and ‘le Retour de la chasse’ is offered in The Collector sale. The auction highlights grouping of 18th and 19th-century silver and ceramics alongside English and European period furniture.
Minton produced a limited number of vases using the Pâte-Sur-Pâte technique. It is a French term that means paste on paste. To mark Minton’s bicentenary in 1992, the firm used the technique to produce a limited number of vases. A pair of pate-sur-pate dusky rose vases are reproductions of early pieces by Alboin Birks. The elongated shield-shape vases symbolize wisdom and love through the finely painted maidens.
Other standouts include Sevres and Meissen porcelain, Buccellati and Georg Jensen silver, 18th and 19th century furniture, sculpture, works of art, fine art, and carpets. With fabrics generously provided by Le Manach enriching the exhibition, interested collectors can register to bid online on Christie’s.
