Striking Pear-Cut GIA Diamonds Come to Sale With Bid Global International Auctioneers LLC

Lodewyk van Berquem of Belgium, the 15th-century diamond cutter, is well known for originally crafting the pear-cut diamond. The Flemish jeweler invented the scaif, a device that significantly transformed the industry. He is also credited with placing facets in diamond cuts and introducing symmetry in cutting. When the stone was initially introduced, it was not very popular since the cutting process caused a loss of the rough diamond. But eventually it came to be appreciated for the smoothness of its facets and elongated look, which made fingers appear slimmer. Two pear-cut GIA graded diamonds highlight the upcoming sale from Bid Global International Auctioneers LLC. One weighs 10.02 carats, whereas the other weighs 7.52 carats. Both teardrop-shaped pieces have curvy, rounded bottoms and taper upwards into a pointed tip. The figure is well suited for solitaires in engagement rings, pendants and earrings. 

A natural fancy brownish yellow diamond, weighing 16.18 carats, also leads the listings. The yellow hue is caused by the nitrogen in the stone. Such diamonds were formed in very high temperatures and pressure below the earth’s surface.
