Ruth Schloss was a social realist artist who explored fate through painting and illustration. Her work is a reflection of her concern for the human condition, especially the fragility and loneliness of disadvantaged people in society. In Jaffa, she often welcomed mothers and their children to play in her studio while she drew portraits of them. In the upcoming New York City Estate Auction, presented by Showplace, one of Ruth Schloss’ paintings will be available. The oil on canvas shows a girl seated on a chair while holding a flower. The piece features shades of blue, brown, orange, and white. It bears her signature in English on the lower left and in Hebrew on the right.
A Northern European Baroque oil on panel altarpiece from the 17th or 18th century is also available. The offered altarpiece shows several Biblical figures gathered in a dark interior. Sweeping ceilings are visible above their heads. The painted work comes in a gilt frame with a curved top. Those interested in these or any other lots can register to bid on Bidsquare.
