Rare Buttons From the 19th and 20th Centuries Will Be Showcased in Two-Day Lion and Unicorn Sale
Nov 08, 2022 09:00 ESTOn the first day of the upcoming Fall Antique Button Collectors Auction, presented by Lion and Unicorn, a set of division three celluloid animals in wood buttons will be available. The set contains six medium-sized wood pieces with assorted animals from the Chinese zodiac in celluloid. Produced in the early 20th century, the wood pieces depict animals including the rat, dog, snake, horse, rabbit, and goat. The wood bases are self-shanked, and the celluloid has an Ivoroid-like appearance.
A division one rare pearl and black glass horse button is available during the auction’s second session. It is a black glass and pearl button. In the center of the button is an intricately enameled white horse standing on its two hind legs. The offered 19th-century button was once collected by Viviane Ertell, the author of The Colorful World of Buttons. This button is an excellent example of 19th-century craftsmanship. Find additional antique buttons and register to bid online on Lion and Unicorn’s website.
