The Premier Auction, offered by Brunk Auctions, is primarily a collection of both decorative and fine art focusing on American and Native American culture. Among the pieces with the highest estimated value is a photograph by Edward Curtis. Curtis was considered an expert on Native American culture, and, realizing that their way of life was being destroyed, sought to record their history through writing, photography, and other art forms. Also capturing a time in early American history in this auction is James Peale’s miniature painting of Governor Samuel Johnston. Johnston was the Governor of North Carolina and also represented the state in the Continental Congress and the United States Senate. The miniature portrait is depicted in watercolor on ivory with a red leather case. Although most pieces in this auction are visual art, a notable exception is a copy of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tales of the Jazz Age. It is a first edition copy from 1922 with a signature by Fitzgerald himself. View any of these lots and register to bid on Bidsquare.
