Post-War to Present Auction Brings 1977 Portrait by Alex Katz, Contemporary Works by Yayoi Kusama

The upcoming Post-War to Present auction, offered by Christie’s, presents fine art produced by some of the most notable artists of the post-war period, as well as leading artistic voices. American figurative artist Alex Katz‘s Ada in Front of 4 PM headlines the sale. Famous for his sculptures, prints, and paintings, Katz specializes in portraits and landscapes. Rendered in 1977, this piece shows the artist’s wife, Ada Katz, seated in a chair amidst lush greenery. 

Another contemporary art icon represented in this auction is Yayoi Kusama with Screaming to the Sun. Hailing from Japan, Kusama works in conceptual art characterized by Surrealism, feminism, Minimalism, Art Brut, Pop Art, and Abstract Expressionism. Painted in 2013, this colorful composition features the artist’s trademark polka dots and circles.
