Platinum and Diamond Engagement Ring and Boucheron Men’s Bracelet Watches Lead Doyle’s Upcoming Sale
Jul 12, 2023 10:00 EDTAlthough there are some unrecorded accounts of the use of engagement rings by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, the first documented version traces their history to 1477. This was the year when Archduke Maximilian of Austria presented a diamond engagement ring to Mary of Burgundy in the imperial court of Vienna to mark the betrothal. Thereafter, the practice of gifting diamond rings to loved ones became widespread. Today, engagement rings are considered a significant part of marriage. A platinum engagement ring studded with three diamonds is a key highlight of the upcoming auction, presented by Doyle. One center stone of about 3.03 carats is flanked by two stones, weighing about 0.55 carats each. Another noteworthy jewelry lot is a Cartier gold bead multi-strand necklace. Designed in 18-karat gold, it has a stacked arrangement graduating down the neck. Two Boucheron men’s bracelet watches also lead the catalog. Both are designed in 18-karat gold with stones.
The sale also features three pairs of striking vintage gold spoons and forks. Also of interest is a lot consisting of seven silver plates. Visit Doyle to view the complete catalog and register to bid in the upcoming Provident Loan Society Jewelry, Watches, Silverware & Coins sale.
