A Peter Max artwork depicting the American flag is a key lot in the upcoming Fine Art auction, offered by Doyle. One of the most prolific artists of the 20th century, Peter Max’s works are synonymous with democracy and freedom. Offering a compassionate view of the United States, Max calls this patriotic image “Flag with a Heart.” Max entered the American art scene in the 1960s after opening a small art studio with his friend. Over the years, he developed an Expressionist style characterized by antique photographic images, collages, and bold colors. The offered hand-painted bronze multiple was completed in 1991.
The upcoming event will offer over 100 lots, including screenprints, oil paintings, etchings, and lithographs. One featured item is LeRoy Neiman’s Blue Hockey. Neiman was known for blending Pop Art with Impressionistic brushwork. He also incorporated vibrant colors in his paintings: “I do not depart from the colors borrowed from life,” he once said. “But I use color to emphasize the scent, the spirit, and the feeling of the thing I’ve experienced.” Besides Neiman, the event also presents work from Carlos Merida. The artist often drew inspiration from Wassily Kandinsky, a pioneer of Abstract Expressionism. Merida’s La Elegida is among the auction’s key lots.
