Palm Beach Modern Auctions Offers Dino Martens Oriente Vase and Archimede Seguso’s ‘Alabastro’ Floor Vase

Dino Martens (1894 – 1970) was a celebrated Italian painter and designer noted for his glass art. His works closely reflect the Murano glass style of the 1950s. An accomplished painter, Martens worked with Aureliano Toso’s glass factory, rendering a series of remarkable glass vases between 1946 and 1960. He adopted a unique technique for his glass artworks by combining conventional Venetian techniques with bold colors and asymmetrical forms. Marten’s Oriente series is considered highly valuable. One such Oriente vase by Dino Martens is a key highlight of the upcoming Palm Beach Modern Auctions sale. The featured piece well represents Martens’ style with its biomorphic shape, patchwork composition, black and white murrine pin-wheels, and more. 

Archimede Seguso’s ‘Alabastro’ floor vase is also highlighted in this sale. One of the 20th century’s master Venetian glassmakers, Archimede Seguso (1909 – 1999) was famous for his animal figurines, chandeliers, and other forms. Seguso, an entrepreneur and designer, started working with glass when he was just 11 years old. Besides rediscovering the massetto technique, he also experimented with the sommerso. This Murano glass technique involves blending colors and placing them atop each other to produce striking layers. The available piece is a rare vase that weighs nearly 25 pounds and has thick walls.
