Freeman’s upcoming Art and Design auction includes a selection of ceramic works by Pablo Picasso, a painting by American artist Ralph Humphrey, and a glazed earthenware piece by Ralph Bacerra. Leading the ceramics is a white clay structure titled Grosse tete, profil gauche. The artwork by Picasso measures 11 ¼ inches high and 3 ¾ inches wide. Executed in 1965, the available lot stands elegant on a wooden base. ‘Edition Picasso’ and ‘Madoura Plein Feu’ are incised on the bottom. Known as the father of the Cubism movement, Picasso created more than 3,000 ceramic works during his career.
A painting by artist Marc Chagall, titled Romeo et Juliette, will also be showcased. This composition was made in 1964 by the Russian-French artist. Rendered in bright colors, it depicts Romeo and Juliet among elements such as a horse, the Place de la Concorde, and the Arc de Triomphe. Other items in the sale include an Edison universal stock ticker, a black Tenmoku-glazed stoneware item, a hand-blown Favrile glass work from Tiffany Studios, and more.
