Over 400 Perfume Bottles Offered in Helmuth Stone Gallery Benefit Auction

The Lifetime Perfume Bottle Collection Benefit auction, presented by Helmuth Stone Gallery, will offer over 400 perfume bottles donated to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. The proceeds will be used for the installation of the church’s roof. Leading the auction is a Morney – June Roses Boule flacon bottle by Andre Jolivet. The available perfume bottle was made in 1911 and comes with its original box. Morny was a perfumery established in 1905 by chemist-perfumer Sidney F. Goss in London. André Jolivet was a French glass designer who created prototype bottles like those available in this auction. Jolivet was always looking for something completely new and innovative and started working with a substance called “essence d‘orient” that gave the glass a pearl finish. He was famous for creating pearlized finished bottles for Frivolia, Gueldy, and Firefly in the 1920s.

Also in the 1920s, the French perfume company Molinard hired renowned glassmaker René Lalique. He designed and produced several magnificent bottles for Molinard that are sought after by collectors. A clear and frosted perfume bottle by Molinard, introduced in 1928, is another notable lot in the sale. It is titled Le Baiser du Faune, French for the “kiss of the faun.” It features two nude figures: a mythical figure of a faun, represented as a man with horns, ears, legs, and tail, kissing a woman. A highlight of the sale is a perfume box by Jean-Michel Frank and a Guerlain Coque d’Or Bottle by Baccarat, from circa 1937.
