Born in 1919 in Ecuador, Oswaldo Guayasamín rose to prominence following his first exhibition at the Salón Nacional de Acuarelistas y Dibujantes in 1948. The artist eventually became known for his Cubist style and depictions of Latin American people. He spent his career explicitly addressing issues of oppression, violence, poverty, and political conflict. An oil painting from Oswaldo Guayasamín will be presented in the upcoming East Coast Estate Finds Sale, offered by Akiba Antiques. Titled Head or Cabezo, the piece shows the face of a woman with a vibrant color palette.
Another painting by Armando Morales, titled Mujer Sentada, is one of the featured lots. Morales was best known for his depictions of tropical scenes, still lifes, and nude portraits. He is often associated with the figurative art movement. Depicting a seated figure, the offered painting incorporates gestural brushstrokes with mostly black, yellow, and blue hues. The event presents over 500 pieces of decorative art, jewelry, and contemporary painting. To view the complete catalog and register to bid online, visit LiveAuctioneers.
