Noteworthy Sculptures by Heather McGill and Bud Latven Lead Everard Auctions and Appraisals’ Upcoming Sale
Jun 27, 2024 10:00 EDTHeather McGill, head of the Sculpture Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art (1991-2017), resided in the suburbs of Detroit for more than two decades. A recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Biennial Award for her works, she was greatly inspired by the city’s industrial legacy. The custom car and surf culture of southern California, McGill’s native region, also influenced her works. An untitled mixed media wall sculpture by the artist is a key highlight of the upcoming sale by Everard Auctions and Appraisals. The sculpture is created with stainless steel, lacquer, aluminum, and urethane foam. At present, McGill lives and practices in Santa Fe. Another striking sculpture is an open conical form woodwork by Bud Latven. It is crafted with turned and segmented Prairie Rutusa, Cocobelo, African Ebony, and Aronite wood. Latven’s wood-turning skills are known for motivating several craftspeople the world over.
George Ohr’s ceramic puzzle mug, signed on the verso, also leads the listing. It is designed with brown glaze and pierced sides. The handle is embossed with twist and flower patterns.
